The Sacramento River Trout fishing in Redding to the Bend Bridge has been very good the past month for fly fishermen using small nymphs under a indicator, spin fishermen are drifting worms, crickets or Glow Bugs. Plug fishermen are using hot shots or flat fish and doing very well. Steelhead fishing has been consistent we hooked 2 on our last trip out one 14 inch and a 19. We practice catch and release for Wild Rainbow Trout and Steelhead on the Sacramento River.

The Salmon fishing on the Sacramento River is picking up I was out today with 2 clients and we hooked and landed 3 king Salmon all about 12 lbs. we hooked 2 Salmon back bouncing Roe and 1 back trolling a Sardine wrapped plug.

Late Fall Salmon and Steelhead Fishing 2011

The Steelhead fishing on the Lower Sacramento River is pretty good right now we have been landing 2 to 4 Steelhead up to 6 lbs. and many Wild Rainbow Trout up to 3 lbs. with allot more hits but no hookups the past few trips out. We are catching fish pulling plug or drifting Glow bugs or a cricket. Fly fishing with small nymphs like a caddis or Mayfly imitation under a indicator.
The Salmon fishing on the Sacramento River for the late fall King Salmon has been picking up and will only get better with a few more storms to bring the Salmon on up river into he Balls Ferry area. I like to use k-16 flat fish with a Sardine wrap at this time of year back trolled or anchor up.

October Salmon Fishing 2011

The Salmon fishing on the Sacramento River has been very good. The last 6 trips out we have been able to limited every one out buy noon . This good of Salmon fishing will spoil you .There is a small storm hitting here now but I don’t think it will effect the fishing if any thing it might make the Salmon fishing even better. We have been back trolling plugs like a k-15 or k-16 with a Sardine wrap or back bouncing roe to get our limits of Salmon.
The Trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento River in the Redding area has not changed that much in the past month we are catching fish pulling plug or drifting Glow bugs or a cricket. Fly fishing with small nymphs like a caddis or Mayfly imitation under a indicator.
The Steelhead fishing on the Lower Sacramento River fishing is starting to pick up we have landed 3 Steelhead while we were Salmon fishing all of them were about 20 inches long.

Summer Salmon Fishing

The Salmon fishing on the Sacramento River is getting better every day and will do so until the end of Oct. when the run will peak. This will be a good long Salmon fishing season. The last few trips out we have hooked a good number of Salmon landing them is another story. The Salmon aren’t real big but they are very hard fighting fish, any thing from 7 lbs. To 30 lbs. fish. The Salmon are biting a Sardine wrapped K15 or K16 or roe back bounced though holes and runs.

The Sacramento river Striper Fishing has been good the past couple weeks and will only get better as the river warms up a bit. Monday I had 4 guy’s out Striper fishing every body got there fish and even turned a couple louse. I went back Sat. with Ethan ,Jake and Ken to try Striper fishing again and hooked 15 fish for the day all on Jumbo minnows trolled down river. A storm was rolling in for Sunday and the wind was pretty bad but we got our fish. We had to cover a lot of water to find the fish but when we did we kept on them and managed to pull limits out for every one on the boat.

Spring fishing 2011

The Trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento River in the Redding area has been getting better with the flows coming down from flood stage a month ago. Fly fishermen using small nymphs under a indicator ,spin fishermen drifting Glow bugs, worms or crickets and Plug fishermen using hot shots or flat fish have been hooking many fat and feisty Wild Rainbow trout and the fishing will only get better as the weather warms up
Striper fishing on the Sacramento River this year will be very good with all the high water we had this winter the reports are there are a lot of stripers heading up river.

March 2011 Trout

The Trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento River in the Redding area has been put on hold until the river releases come back down ,today 3-21-2011 it is at 46,000 cfps. BUT on the other hand the high water will make it good for Striper fishing on the Sacramento River in a couple months .Booking Striper fishing trip now for May.
The Trout fishing had been pretty good an the Sac. up until a week ago we hooked 8 Wild Rainbow Trout and 3 Steelhead on the last trip out .
Trout fishing will get good again in a couple weeks after the storms pass and the high muddy water is gone.
Shasta Lake Trout fishing has been producing about 10 hookups and 7 to 8 landed fish per trip all Trout are about 18 to 20 inches.

The Trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento River in the Redding area has been very good the past month for fly fishermen using small nymphs under a indicator ,spin fishermen are drifting worms or crickets. Most of the Wild Rainbow trout we have been catching are 12 to 24 inches long and weigh 1 lbs. to 6 lbs. they are all very hard fighting fish large or small. Steelhead fishing has picked up a bit also we hooked 2 on our last trip out. We practice catch and release on the Sac.
Shasta Lake fishing has been good for Bass or Trout . For Trout fishing try trolling lures in silver /blue, Red /gold colors or shad imitations . For Bass fishing try 40 to 90 feet deep with minnows, Senkos or plastic worms shaky head or tubes in crawdad colors or water Mellon.

Winter Rainbow Trout

The Trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento Riverin the Redding area has been hit and miss with the recent storms the past month but the fish are still biting for fly fishermen using small nymphs under a indicator ,spin fishermen are drifting worms or crickets and Plug fishermen are using hot shots or flat fish.
I had 2 people to take out Sat. Trout fishing . We did pretty good for this time of year. We back trolled plugs and drifted Fly’s to hooking about 16 Wild Rainbow Trout and landing about 6 of them. The Trip out 2 days prior we landed 2 Steelheadand were hoping to do it again but to no avail may be next time.
Salmon Fishing Season is now closed on the Sacramento River .We had a good season hooking many Salmon one went 39lbs. Looking forward to next year.

Winter Salmon Fishing

The Sacramento River Salmon fishing below Red Bluff is open until Dec. 12th 2010 and with any luck we will not have any big storms blow in and muddy up the river because we have been catching some really nice Big King Salmon. On Nov. 6th Greg and Connie Page hooked 4 Kings and landed 2 one was 15lbs. The other was 39lbs. . On the 12th Randy and Joe hooked 2 Kings and Joe landed 1 that was a dime bright 20lbs. Hen Joe is 10 years old, pretty cool .On the 16th Keith and Ethan were out and hooked 2 Salmon and landed one 15lbs. King. If the river doesn’t muddy up we will be catching Salmon until the closing day .We have been having a great time this year Salmon fishing in the new boat it is allot bigger than my other boat.

The Sacramento River Salmon fishing season opener on the upper section was fantastic.
Within 15 minutes of fishing we had 2 King Salmon in the boat and on our way to hooking 9 Salmon and boating 5 of them by 11:30 am. All the Salmon were between 12lbs. To 20lbs. Where we were fishing at it seemed like every were you looked a Salmon was been caught by someone. The bait was the standard Sardine wrapped Quick fish or Roe .There are allot of King Salmon in the Sacramento river right now ,if you ever want to catch a King Salmon now is the time to go. Salmon Season will close on 10-31-2010

Most of the Wild Rainbow trout we have been catching are 12 to 24 inches long and weigh 1 lbs. to 6 lbs. they are all very hard fighting fish large or small . The Trout are on a good bite right now Fly fishermen are using small nymphs under a indicator. Bait fishermen are drifting worms or crickets. Plug fishermen are using hot shots or flat fish .
The department of fish and Game has decided to have a two part Salmon season this year with a 2 fish limit.
Upper Sacramento River open Oct.9th through Oct. 31st.
Middle Sacramento River open Oct9th. through Dec. 12th
The Sacramento River Salmon fishing this year might be good this year if all the predictions are right a lot of fish are being caught in the ocean and a lot of fish have been seen in the Feather river that will open to Salmon fishing on July 31st through August 29th.

The winter months are the hardest to fish do to the weather but there are some big fish to be caught ,Trout fishing is good year round on the Sacramento river. Shasta lake Bass fishing is starting to pick up but the Bass fishing can be good one day bad the next just like the river it all depend on the weather try using plastic worms, jigs, hard baits, live bait . Steelhead Green

The Sacramento River has been on and off do to the rains mudding up the river. It is taking about 4 days for the river to clear up enough to go fishing but when the waters clears to a Steelhead Green color the best area to try for a Wild Rainbow Trout or Wild Steelhead will be the area from Redding to Anderson. This section of river clears upthe quickest. Flows are very low just over 3,000 cfs. Water temp. about 48 deg. If you like using waders to fish now is the time to go. What are they biting Fly’s, Bugs and Plugs .
Fishing on Shasta Lake has been good also for Rainbow Trout and Bass. For Bass Fish from 5 feet out to 50 feet out with swim baits ,Senkos or plastic wornms rigged shakey or tubes in crawdad color or Watermellon . For Trout trolling small lures in a shad pattern or driff Minnows.

The Wild Rainbow Trout fishing has been great the past couple months on the Lower Sacramento River Between Redding and Red Bluff.
The Steelhead are starting to show up we hooked a couple the last trip out and many Wild Rainbow Trout, one Salmon with all the fish moving in to spawn you don‘t know what you will hook on your next cast.
Have been using cadis fly’s , may fly nymphs, glow bugs or side drifting crickets and pulling plugs with great success. Trout are very acrobatic when hooked in shallow water ,jumping many times.
The weather has finally cooling down a bit that makes it a lot more fun to go fishing

Shad and Trout fishing 2009

The Wild rainbow Trout fishing and Shad fishing on the Lower Sacramento River has been great the past month . The last Trout fishing trip out we hooked 10 fish and landed 6 of them in a 3 hour fishing trip all of the fish were Wild Rainbow Trout the largest one was about a 3 lbs. . Trout fishing is great during the summer months on the Sacramento River in Redding The wild Rainbow Trout on this part of the river bite all day fly’s, plugs or bugs.

Shad fishing is great right now below the Red Bluff Diversion Dam down to Corning and will be through the month of July the last trip out we fished for 4 hours and hooked 40 fish and managed to land about 20 they weighed any were form 2 lbs. To 6 lbs. Shad are so much fun to catch they fight hard all the way into the net. We were using 1 1/2 grubs in chartreuse with a 1/16 oz. pink grub head . The same bait it has been for many years.

May 2009 Trout, Salmon and Shad fishing

The Wild Rainbow Trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento River is great right now the last few trips out have produced many Trout a couple 20lbs.Salmon and a 5lbs. Steelhead. All Salmon are released unharmed do to the fact that the season is closed right now . The time is right to go on that once in a life time fishing trip. The Shad fishing is starting to get good also. Shad are the hardest fighting fish pound for pound on the river all the way to the net. Shad fishing will continue until the 1st week of August. Book a Shad fishing and Sturgeon combo trip or Trout and Shad fishing trip now to get the best dates possible. The Wild Rainbow Trout and Steelhead fishing is good as always on the Lower Sacramento River, The flows have came up for irrigation. We went down to the river the other day and hooked five Wild Rainbow Trout and a King Salmon. We saw a couple of Wild Rainbow Trout rising for flies. The Trout are biting on fly’s, live bait , glow bugs and plugs. There is so many different kinds of wildlife to see on the river like families of Geese, Otters, Eagles, Turkeys, Ospreys, deer, Pelicans and many others.
The Bass fishing on Shasta Lake has been good also using plastic worms, jigs, hard baits, live bait you name it and the fish are biting on it. The Bass are in 3 feet of water to 30 feet deep.

The Sacramento River flows are very low right now between 3200 and 3300cfs. That has allot of the boat ramps high and dry.
The Wild Rainbow Trout fishing is good as always on the Sacramento River we are also catching a couple of Steelhead each trip out that weigh from 2lbs. To 5lbs. The weather has been good for winter steelhead fishing but the recent storms will change that for awhile it take a few days to warm enough to get the bugs to hatch again for the fly fisherman but there are other ways of fishing the Sacramento River that work very well. The Trout are biting on fly’s, live bait , glow bugs and plugs.
Have made a few sturgeon fishing trips in the past 3 months and had allot of fun fighting these big fish .A 6 footer is a BLAST they are so big and powerful it takes about 30 minutes to land one.

The Late Winter Salmon fishing season was nothing but a disaster with the closer of the area between the Deschutes Bridge and Red Bluff they shut down the only good section of the river to Salmon fish this late in the year .Hopefully next year this will change.
The Trout and Steelhead fishing has remained good The best bite has been on small nymph patterns but bugs and plugs work also. Good luck.

The late winter special Salmon season opened Saturday Nov. 1st with a lot of rain and wind that muddied up the river and added a lot of leaves to make the fishing very difficult. The recent rain will prompt more Salmon and Steelhead to head up river to the spawning grounds moving more fish into our area making the fishing much better.
The Trout and Steelhead fishing has been good lately hooked many 2lbs. To 3lbs.Wild Rainbow Trout last trip out and one 6lbs. Hatchery Steelhead .The Trout and Steelhead are biting small #14 or #16 nymphs ,glow bugs, hot shots or drifting roe.

Shad fishing has came and gone for another year looking forward to next year. The wild Rainbow Trout on this part of the river bite all day long on fly’s, plugs or bugs , hooked a lot of fish from 1 lbs. To 5 lbs. on the past couple trips out.

Fishing report
The Shad fishing continues to be good. We have been trip hooking 15 to 30 fish every trip out on a 1/16oz. pink head with a green body grub about 1 ½ inches long .Shad are very hard fighting fish all the way to the net. We have been Sturgeon and Striper fishing after Shad fishing in the morning . Hooking one to four fish every trip out. What a kick to land a 7 foot long Sturgeon and a 27lbs. Striper all on the same trip.
Trout fishing is great during the summer months on the Sacramento River in Redding. The wild Rainbow Trout on this part of the river bite all day long fly’s, plugs or bugs. Landed one 5lbs.Wild Rainbow Trout last trip out and many smaller ones.

Shad,Trout, Salmon fishing

The Shad fishing has been great . We have been hooking about 25 fish per trip on a pink head with a green body grub about 1 ½ inches long .Shad are a very hard fighting fish all the way to the net. Pound for pound better fighting fish than a Steelhead. Shad fishing will be good for the rest of the month. Trout fishing is great during the summer months on the Sacramento River in Redding The wild Rainbow Trout on this part of the river bite all day fly’s, plugs or bugs. Steelhead fishing will start getting good in September.

The Wild Rain bow Trout fishing is great on the lower Sacramento River have been hooking a lot of fish from 1 lbs. To 5 lbs. on plugs .The Shad fishing is getting good .last trip out we hooked most of our fish on pink grubs with a plain jig head 1/6 oz.

Trout and Shad fishing

Trout fishing has been great on the Sacramento River. Have been hooking a lot of fish every trip out anything from a 1lbs.to 5lbs.wild rainbow Trout. The fish are biting fly’s, plugs and bugs. Shad fishing is starting to get good. The Shad are here in June and July don’t miss out on a great fishing trip. They are hitting on Green grubs with a pink head.

The Sacramento River flows have finally came up and the Wild Rainbow Trout fishing is good . The weather is perfect for fishing .went out yesterday caught 10 fish in 2 hours of fishing not to bad for a morning trip a couple of the fish were wild Steelhead that were over 5lbs.. The fish are biting fly’s, plugs and bugs.

Low River Flows

The Sacramento River flows are very low right now. They are holding the water back trying to fill Shasta Lake before summer. The low river flows have kept me of the river. The river will be on the rise soon now that spring is here and they need to start irrigating the crops.

Trout and Steelhead fishing will be on the top of the list to go fishing for as soon as the Sacramento River clears up after the recent storms. The winter months are the hardest to fish do to weather but there are some big fish to be caught ,Trout fishing is good year round on the Sacramento river. Looking forward to spring and some warm weather to fish in. Shasta lake Bass fishing is starting to pick up but the Bass fishing can be good one day bad the next just like the river it all depend on the weather. Trout fishing on Shasta lake can be good right now trolling small plugs.

Winter Salmon Fishing

Salmon fishing has picked up the river has cleared out of all the leaves that were blowing around with the last storm, now is the time to go Salmon fishing before the river gets to high and muddy. There were a lot of 2 lbs. to 3o lbs. bright Salmon jumping today where we were fishing. The bite was on k-16 flat fish with a sardine wrap or roe.

The Trout fishing has been good all month except for the windy days which made the fishing a little tougher with allot of leaves blown into the river the fish don’t like to bite when this happens. The late fall Salmon are starting to show up, Salmon, Trout & Steelhead fishing will start picking up after all the leaves get flushed down river.

Steelhead and Wild Rainbow Trout fishing has been good from Redding to Red Bluff side drifting Glow Bugs or small nymph patterns the past few weeks and the fishing should stay good with no rain in sight for two weeks to muddy up the river. What are the fish biting , Fly’s , Plugs and Bugs.
Salmon fishing has remained slow all of Oct. looking forward to late Nov. and the second run of Salmon that comes up the Sacramento River in the Fall.

Early Fall Salmon Fishing

The Salmon are jumping in all the holes but the bite has been slow. After more fish move into the Sacramento river the bite will pick up with the Salmon getting territorial trying to find a spot to spawn.
Trout fishing is good one day not so the next. It all depends on the river flows from Shasta dam. Very common for this time of year.
Hooked a 4lbs. Steelhead trip 9-22-07 , 4lbs. Wild Rainbow on 9-27-07.. many smaller but every bit as much fun and beautifully colored Rainbows were caught on both trips.

Salmon fishing is slow right now but in two weeks we will see a lot more fish in the river making it much more possible to catch that 40lbs. Salmon you have been looking for.

The Trout fishing has been great even though the weather is hot the Trout don’t seem to mind have been catching fish all day long . We stop and jump into the river and cool off that don’t take long with water temp. at 53 deg. What are the fish biting ,Fly’s , Plugs and Bugs. The Shad fishing has been good the past couple weeks might start slowing down though in a week or two.
Salmon fishing season opens July 16th below Red Bluff , should be a good opener have seen some Salmon rolling on recent fishing trips below Red Bluff . Big Game Fishing.

The Wild Rainbow Trout have been on a great bite lately the Sacramento River flows are on the rise for irrigation in the valley that makes for some great Trout fishing here on the lower Sacramento River in northern Ca. Last trip out we hooked 3 Wild Rainbows in the 1st hole we fished only 1 in the next hole then 5 in the 3rd hole. Had a great day catching and releasing many Wild Trout. What are the fish biting ,Fly’s , Plugs and Bugs,
The Shad fishing will be here in a few days can hardly wait , Shad are so much fun to catch ,supper hard fighters. Made a scouting trip out and landed 2 fish in a 3 hour trip not red hot yet. Will be in 2 weeks . Good Luck

Trout fishing is Great right now the weather has been perfect not to hot yet. Hooked many large Wild Rainbows and a couple Wild Steelhead last trip out what a great day Hooked a Wild Rainbow in 5 minutes of starting to fish and landed 3 more in the first hole it was like that all day long. FISH ON ! AGAIN COOL… Had many double and triple hookups. The river flows have been stable lately that helps make the fishing good.

Sacramento River American Shad Fishing will start getting good the 1st week in June and continue until August . These fish are a lot of fun to catch supper hard fighters all the way to the net . Good Luck

The Trout Fishing on the Lower Sacramento River has been good and will only get better. Warm weather has flies hatching off all day .The Sacramento River is very low right now be careful were you go. The weather is perfect out side for a fishing trip not to hot not to cold. Looking forward to the river flows to go back up. The fishing will be great in a couple weeks since the river has only flooded a couple times this year that will make the Wild Rainbow Trout fishing great. Trout Fishing has been good on the Lower Sacramento River Between Redding and Red Bluff . Many 12 to 16 inch Wild Rainbows and a couple 26 inch Wild Steelhead were on the hook last trip out. The River is clearing up fast usually in about 3 days after the rain stops . Fly’s , Plugs and Bugs, are on the menue .. Good Luck .

The Sacramento River has Salmon in it from Redding to the bay find the fish and get your bait in front of them and you might get bit bouncing roe or pulling plugs. The Salmon fishing never seamed to go in to high gear this year. Salmon we are seeing now are new arrivals fresh fish to belly up floaters. Salmon runs are moving through fast 1day a lot of fish next day not. As long as the weather holds good we will be able to go Salmon fishing and Steelhead fishing or Trout fishing . Steelhead fishing has been Great this year many large fish taken the same can be said for the Trout fishing. Fly’s ,Plugs or Bait will all work .

Have been having good luck Salmon fishing Northern Ca. Lower Sacramento River below Anderson. Salmon are jumping in all the holes up and down the Sac. river. As for bait , A Flat fish with a Sardine wrap or Back bouncing Roe.. My preferred way to fish. The Salmon size this year so far is 10 lbs. to 40lbs. Get your bait in front of one of these Salmon and hang on for the fight of your life you will love it. GOOD LUCK!.

Late Summer Trout

Have been having great luck Trout fishing the Lower Sacramento River between Redding and Anderson. The Wild Rainbow Trout are biting all day long on Fly’s, plugs and bugs. The Wild Rainbow Trout here are the most colorful Trout you will ever see.
Salmon fishing is improving every day more Salmon move up the Sacramento River
To spawn, resting along the way .Find the resting spot and you will catch fish.
As for bait. Back bouncing row or a flat fish with a sardine wrap.

The Shad fishing is Great . Have been out many times in the past few weeks hooking a lot of Shad on chartreuse green grubs with a 1/8 pink jig head. I have been fishing from my boat anchored 25 feet from the bank casting into shady areas and eddies. You will donate a few grubs to the trees when you are casting in to the right places . The shad size is about 1 lbs. To 4 lbs. but they all fight like 15 lbs. speedsters.
The Wild Rainbow Trout fishing is Fantastic .The warm weather has the bugs hatching out all day long keeping the Trout on the bite from sun up till sun down. Have been using cadis fly’s , may fly nymphs, glow bugs or side drifting crickets and pulling plugs with great success. Trout are very acrobatic when hooked in shallow water ,jumping many times. To see where you are . Be careful in the heat and drink a lot of water.

Wild Rainbow Trout fishing on the lower Sacramento River is in full swing the water is clear and cold the fish are big and feisty. Released many Wild Rainbow Trout over the past weeks fishing, sorry I don’t keep count I’m not competitive when fishing.
Shad fishing is getting started made a trip down to Red Bluff to check it out and hooked a lot of big Shad about 3lbs each .looks like it is going to be another good Shad fishing year
Don’t wait to go Shad run up the Sacramento River to spawn then go back down Shad are in the river heard for about 2 months. When you find a school of Shad the fishing action is unbeatable fast hard fighting shiny dynamos.

The Trout fishing is excellent on the lower Sacramento River near Redding , caught and released many large wild rainbow Trout and Steelhead. The river is high and green in color. Warm weather has a small fly hatch off all day that will get better as summer heat nears.
