May Trout 2014

Trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento River from Redding to Red Bluff has been awesome the past month with about 30 hookups a trip. Most of the Wild Rainbow trout we have been catching are 12 to 16 inches long and weigh 1 lbs. to 4 lbs. they are all very hard fighting fish large or small.
An occasional Salmon is hooked at this time of year and usually a couple of Steelhead are landed each trip. We practice catch and release on the Sacramento River. A camera is a must have on every trip. The Trout and Steelhead are on a good bite right now Fly fishermen are using small nymphs under an indicator. Bait fishermen are drifting worms or crickets. Plug fishermen are using hot shots or flat fish.
Striper fishing is great in the Colusa area right now. Hooking Stripers trolling Rapala's and Jumbo Minnows for limits of 2 fish per person and a few shakers.
Shad fishing is starting and by June will be red hot along with the weather.
Salmon fishing season opens July 16th this year.
