2013 Spring Trout

The Trout fishing from Redding to Anderson is great right now and will only get better throughout the summer . Mitch was up from Oakland last weekend for some Wild Rainbow Trout fishing. We started out in the morning drifting small fly’s and hooked up with a couple Trout over 20 inches then the wind came up in the afternoon so we switched over to trolling some lures and hooked up about 15 more times. All the Trout were between 12 and 16 inches. Bruce came up from Chico on Sunday to fish for a half day, 10 minutes after we started fishing we had netted 2 Wild Rainbow Trout that were about 14 inches long both fish were released without any harm to them. We fished for another 4 hours and hooked about 20 more fish.

What are they biting on ? Fly fishermen are using small Caddis or Mayfly nymphs under a indicator. Spin fishermen are drifting worms, crickets or Glow Bugs. Trolling Hot shots or flat fish will work also to hook a feisty wild Trout on the Sacramento River.

Salmon fishing season opens July 16th this year and the word is we are in for a bigger run of Salmon than last year and a lot bigger fish .

Spring Striper and Trout fishing 2013

The Sacramento River Striper fishing has finally gotten good in the Colusa to Tisdale area drifting jumbo Minnows most of the Stripers are schooly size with the occasional 40 lbs. showing up.

The Wild Rainbow Trout fishing from Redding to Anderson has been good the past few trips out and will only get better as the weather warms up and we quit havening the rains in the foot hills mudding up the river. What are they biting on for fly fishermen using small Caddis or Mayfly nymphs under a indicator. Spin fishermen are drifting worms, crickets or Glow Bugs. Trolling small lures will work also to hook a feisty wild Rainbow Trout on the Sacramento River.

Shasta lake Bass fishing, Trout and land locked Salmon fishing has been good and will only get better over the next couple months.

2013 Spring Trout Fishing

The Trout fishing in Redding to the Ben bridge has been good the last few trips out. The river has finally cleared up after the storms in December. Last week Bill and Dave were up from Sacramento for some Wild Rainbow Trout fishing and Steelhead fishing they hooked about 20 fish and landed 12 of them, 2 were Steelhead ,one was 20 inches long and the other Steelhead was 22 inches long the Trout were all between 12 and 16 inches long. What are they biting on for fly fishermen using small Caddis or Mayfly nymphs under a indicator. Spin fishermen are drifting worms, crickets or Glow Bugs. Trolling Hot shots or flat fish will work also to hook a feisty wild Trout on the Sac.

Sacramento River Striper fishing is starting to heat up in the Colusa area and will only get better as the water warm up and the flows are increased out of Shasta Dam. My favorite way to fish for Stripers is with Minnows trolled down river.

2013 Trout fishing

The Steelhead and Wild Rainbow Trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento River from Redding to the Bend Bridge has been good the past month for fly fishermen using small Caddis or Mayfly nymphs under a indicator. Spin fishermen are drifting worms, crickets or Glow Bugs. Fishermen trolling Hot shots or flat fish are doing well also. The Sacramento River is murky right now but that has not affected the bite a lot the fish need to eat also.

Dec. Salmon 2012

The Sacramento River Salmon fishing season closed Dec.16th with muddy water and allot of debris in the water I personally didn’t fish, I fell the water was to muddy. I am gearing up for Sturgeon fishing and Striper fishing in a few months on the Lower Sacramento River around Colusa. The Wild Rainbow Trout fishing and the occasional Steelhead fishing can be good right now between storms when the river clears up for a couple days drifting Glow Bugs behind the Salmon that are spawning .

Late Fall Kings 2012

The Sacramento River Salmon fishing was good on Monday the 26th below Balls ferry before the storms moved in, Ethan and I hooked and landed 3 Kings back trolling mallard bill plugs with a Sardine wrap ,1 was a 30lbs. Male. The Salmon fishing will be good as soon as the Sacramento River begins to clear up.

The Wild Rainbow Trout fishing and Steelhead fishing has remained the same for the past 2 months drifting Glow Bugs or small nymph fly’s under an indicator or pulling small lures. The flows out of Keswick are 5000 kcfs.
