Nov. Steelhead 2014

Sacramento River Steelhead fishing is good now, we have been hooking 4 or 5 a trip and a lot of Wild Rainbow trout. The river is on the murky side because there was a land slide above Shasta Dam that tuned the lake into a big mud puddle. Salmon fishing has been slow but we are hooking a couple Kings a trip. Winter run Salmon are fewer in numbers than the summer run but are usually bigger. Last week Dennis landed a 25 lb. Hen King Salmon and his buddy landed a 4 lb. Steelhead and about 4 other Trout in between. Back trolling plugs with a Sardine wrap or drifting roe has been hooking Salmon and Steelhead. Fly fishermen are using small nymphs or a small egg imitation pattern under an indicator. Bait fishermen are drifting crickets or roe. Plug fishermen are using hot shots or flat fish. We practice catch and release for trophy Trout and Steelhead on the Sacramento River. A camera is a must have on every trip especially now with the fall colors.

Fall Salmon and Steelhead 2014

SacramentoRiver Salmon fishing from Redding to Corning has been good the past month. We have been hooking 2 to 4 salmon a trip and a couple Steelhead also. The salmon are weighing between 10 to 40 lbs. The Steelhead are running about 2 to 4 lbs. There is a mix of bright and dark fish. Back trolling plugs with a Sardine wrap or drifting roe has been working for me. Trout fishing in the Redding to Anderson area has been great the past couple trips. Fly fishermen are using small nymphs or a small egg imitation pattern under an indicator. Bait fishermen are drifting worms or crickets or roe. Plug fishermen are using hot shots or flat fish. We practice catch and release for trophy Trout and Steelhead on the Sacramento River. A camera is a must have on every trip especially now with the fall colors.
